Once I sold torches for a few years, I found some consistent flaws in all the products I came across. First, fueling a torch was messy business. You needed to remove the wick collar to pour oil into the torch, which meant getting soot and oil all over your hands. The wick collars were also a problem, because they fell off and spilled fuel everywhere if the torch tipped over. To solve these problems I found a vendor in India who helped me design torches with fill holes and wing-style caps for clean, easy fueling, and a threaded wick collar that wouldn’t come off if the torch tipped.
